Note that Steward Hostim used to be spelled Gostim. Then a friend pointed out, quite reasonably, that Gostim and gosudar look way too similar. So now it’s Hostim.
If you’ve forgotten him altogether: he’s the steward of Shelisk who recently got into (as yet unexplained) trouble with the gosudar. Prince Meled ordered Yarosvet (aka Yarik) to ensure Hostim’s safety back on pp 37-38.
